What the council pays, per family, to put homeless households up in emergency housing such as bed and breakfasts and short-term lets. It matters because this is one of the fastest-growing costs councils face, and some pay far more per family than others. A high figure means expensive accommodation — often reliance on costly B&Bs — regardless of how many families need help; a low figure means the council houses each family more cheaply.

Unit cost of temporary accommodation: TA spend per household housed in TA. It separates high demand from expensive provision — B&B-heavy councils score badly on it even at similar caseloads. Only computable from 2019-20 because the TA spend line starts then.
