The number of homeless households the council puts up in 'nightly paid' accommodation — rooms and flats rented from private landlords one night at a time, with no lease and premium prices. It is the fast-growing, budget-draining end of temporary accommodation, used when nothing better can be found. A high count means the council is paying top rates for insecure stopgaps; low means it rarely needs to.

Households in nightly-paid, privately managed, self-contained accommodation at quarter end. Nightly lets are high unit cost and the fastest-growing TA type — heavy reliance signals spot-market procurement rather than stable supply. Snapshot count.
